Organized by the AA Ski Club. Group lessons for everyone Mon-Thurs. Planned Apres Ski and Evening Social Events.

Communicate with the Room Mom via the form to the right.

Happy Thanksgiving !!!

We are all blessed with the health, education, love of life, and the NAASF Family that allows us to participate in ski and snowboard events like this.  I thank every one of you for your part in making our organization what it is!!!

We are only 10 days from beginning our ski and snowboard season.  There are still a few things to address

STEAMBOAT SNOW
I've had a TON of questions about the snow conditions in Steamboat.  I have been skiing the past two days so this is MY opinion.

As of TODAY there is only one lift open with two routes to the bottom.  The snow has been generally "ok" (not great, but not horrible) with a few mega slippery spots.  The temps are finally cool enough that they snowmakers can blow snow all night and most of the day, so coverage is increasing daily.  Snow is predicted for 3 of the next 5 days.

For Training Camp, I feel that there will be sufficient snow to conduct our training.  For 'training" we generally use a very limited amount of the mountain anyway.  If you are expecting to explore the entire mountain, you will be disappointed.

Uniform Info
The jackets have arrived and look way cool.  If you have RSVPed I will have your jacket at the Chili Party to distribute.

As we mentioned in the spring, we "suggest" RED PANTS with the jackets.  It looks really cool together and will make a great impression on the mountain.  If you just can't find red pants, Black or White would be the alternate "recommendation".

JACKET DISTRIBUTIONS and CHILI PARTY
Thanks to everyone that offered their condo living rooms to our club for distributing the jackets and having our Chili Party.   We have decided to use Ed Kinney, Jeff and Mark Stender's unit.

If you ordered a jacket, I will have your jacket at the condo from about 3 pm until about 6 pm.  If you do not pick it up between those hours and would like to have it for skiing on Monday, it is MEGA important that you contact me ASAP and make an alternate plan.

We will NOT distribute jackets Monday morning....I'm sorry, but it is just too hard to schlep the jackets all over the resort.

We WILL have a second jacket distribution sometime Monday evening (Time to be announce later).

IF YOU DID NOT RSVP THAT YOU ARE COMING TO CAMP, I WILL NOT HAVE YOUR JACKET AVAILABLE.....

Rachel will make a BIG POT of CHILI Sunday afternoon in Ed, Jeff, and Mark's Condo....I will send an email Sunday with the room number when we know it.  I will also leave word at the front desk.

I need to know who/how many people would like to join in the Chili Party on Sunday Afternoon (probably from about 3 pm until about 6 pm).  We will ask everyone to pitch in $5 to cover the cost of the chili.

Here is the CURRENT list of those that have RSVPed for Chili:

  • Anne-Claire
  • Abigail
  • Julie
  • Nathan

SKI/SNOWBOARD EQUIPMENT STORAGE
 - Until January

Ski/Board/Boots Storage - The next time the majority of our club members and guests will ski will be back at Steamboat in January.  I know schlepping your equipment home and back again is a pain.  Unfortunately the "locals" don't have room to store other people's equipment.

With that in mind, I have made arrangements with a local "self storage" facility to rent a unit on a monthly basis.  They will actually pro-rate anything over 30 days so that we could get the unit for a reasonable price until we return in Mid January.

The cost will depend on how many people would like to leave their equipment, but I anticipate under $30/person (maybe as low as $15, depending on the interest.  If this interests you, I need to know SOON.

The current list of people wishing to store their equipment in the storage unit
  • Julie
  • Nathan
  • Lisa
If you are NOT on this list and would like to store your equipment in Steamboat until we return in January, let me know.

The storage unit is about 2 minutes from my condo.  If you need access to the storage unit anytime between Training Camp and the January NAASF week, I will be here to let you in/out.

OK...that's all....HERE IS YOUR  "TO DO LIST"
  • If you would like to eat Chili with us on Sunday afternoon/evening, LET ME KNOW - ASAP
  •  If you would like to offer a ride to/from Steamboat, LET ME KNOW - ASAP
  • If you would like to store your ski/snowboard equipment in Steamboat, until January, LET ME KNOW - ASAP
Be Safe !!! Have Fun !!!

ROOM MOM SERVICE
For those unfamiliar, AA Ski and Snowboard Club offers a "Room Mom Service" each Ski week.  The Room Mom (or Dad) helps coordinate rooms and rides.  You do not need a room mate.  We will help you find one IF you wish.

Once again Rachel Rueter and Jim Tullos have volunteered to be the Room Moms for Training Camp.  If you need assistance you can email them at:

AdvSkiScub@aol.com
or call
817 946 5736

Jim and Rachel will pre-reserved several condo units that have historically been a blast.

So before you book your own unit, give the Room Mom a call and they will attempt to put you in a fun condo.
.
TRAINING
You will divide into groups of 8 or less with similar skill levels.  Your group will work with your coach to determine where the group interest and needs are.  If you aren't a racer, you can work on free skiing skills.  If you are a racer, there will be plenty of gate training.

For those that have NEVER skied or ridden a board before, you will enjoy the same low rates and attend Steamboats world famous Snow Sports School for the same low rate as everyone else (more than 50% discount).

Although there is no minimum number of training days required, it is highly encouraged attendees do at least 3 days of training because all training is "progressive" and builds on what was taught the previous day.  Most attendees will do all four days of training.

FAMILY FRIENDLY
Steamboat has the well deserved reputation of being the most family friendly resort in the industry.
  • KIDS SKI FREE -For every 5 day lift ticket purchased, your kids ski free.

COME EARLY - STAY LATE
Steamboat and the Steamboat Grand have extended our heavily discounted rates to allow you to come two days early and/or stay a two days later than the published "Camp" dates.  This will allow those with scheduling issues to still get to come and ski.

EVERYONE is highly encouraged to come ski at least one day prior to training camp so that you will have your ski legs back and get the most of your training.

Jim, Earl, Lindy, and a few other of our " Steamboat Locals" have volunteered to accompany groups that want to ski/ride on Saturday and Sunday before Camp begins.

GUESTS ARE WELCOME
Guests and family members are not only welcome, they are encouraged to join us in Steamboat.  You can bring your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

I know several of you have already said you have arranged rides with your condo mates or are on your own.....but some of you still need rides and some of you would like to have riders.

So, If you have room in a car for another person, tell me WHAT TIME DO YOU PLAN TO LEAVE DENVER? (or if it's another airport, when and where?)
If you aren't sure but are willing to rent and drive, let me know too.

I will send an email next week with all the available seats and the drivers phone/email....those NEEDING rides can call/text/email those offering rides.....!!!

It's up to YOU to work out the deal....OR...if you want to ride Alpine Shuttle, remember you need a reservation and you DO get a discount.

SO....if you are offering a ride.....tell me NOW.

Jim
THIS JUST IN FROM COMPUTER EXPERT TOM STONE:
When using Alpine Shuttle web page, when you initially sign in on page one put in the code NAASFWEB in the group/discount code box and click on the right arrow.  That takes you directly to the NAASF site for Alpine Taxi and you get your discount on that site.  DO NOT click on Arrival or Departure on the Alpine Shuttle page one as that bypasses the  NAASF discount page and no discount.
