Bjorn's Spring Recon of Big White

Site inspection at Big White, Canada. Wow, is all I can say. They want us here and it will be a fantastic event. Showed up yesterday in shorts weather and 62F (17C). Wondered if I had taken a wrong turn somewhere. Woke up this morning to fresh powder and winter wonderland. Everything is local. Get here and enjoy. Full length GS course on an awesome hill. Opportunity for regular or dual slalom. I hope the board approve the boarder cross event. Went through the course today (on a snowmobile) and it was fun. No part of the course was scary. Has its own chair lift just for this course. Start planning, this will be a awesome WASC.

And, this just in...
Bjorn's Fall Recon of Big White Report.

Just returned from the IASF fall meeting in Big White and they got fresh powder in the last two days.  The team running Big White is very accommodating and I believe it will be a great event.  We will have boardercross for the first time ever, and I even believe Jim Tullos got somewhat excited about it after not being very supportive.  Big White is a large resort, but everything is located in the village (within 5-10 minutes walking).  Take a look at the accommodations, maybe google a few place and let me know if you have any questions.

Reservation goes live on October 1st.  Rooms/apartments will be released to the public after January 5th.  One person can reserve a condo with ccard and the others pay him/her.  No need for the club to reserve rooms for everyone.

The biggest challenge that I see is that people will wait to reserve rooms until they get their schedule in February.  We have no guarantee what rooms if any will be available at that time.  If you want the team to stay together, then I suggest they reserve early.  Reservations can change name, so if someone can’t make it they can sell their room/apartment to someone else.

We are working with Air Canada to offer fares from Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver to Kelowna.  Most likely they will use their existing scheduled flight instead of adding flights.  They will monitor capacity and upgrade equipment as needed.  There will be a window to purchase these tickets (confirm fare).  I will inform you as I get more info.  From Kelowna we can arrange busses.  Fares around $20 each way for large busses.  Not bad.

If I am back from Norway on the 26th, I plan to be at the team meeting.  I should have quite a bit more info by then.

Cheers,

Bjorn
